When I was 17, I lost my strong and beautiful mother to ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, even today, ovarian cancer remains a deadly disease for many women in Canada. Thousands of Canadian women are currently living with ovarian cancer, and five women lose their lives to this disease every day. These women are not just statistics but integral parts of their families and our society.
Despite the prevalence of ovarian cancer, there is still no reliable screening for it, and the survival rates remain very low, with no improvement in the last 50 years. It’s time to raise awareness and funds to fight this disease.
That’s why I am participating in the 2nd annual Ride for Ovarian Cancer on Saturday, April 6. I will ride my mountain bike for 50 km and 1800 metres of climbing on Squamish single and double track to raise awareness and funds for Ovarian Cancer Canada.
I am doing this with the support of some great friends, and my goal is to raise $5000 this year. Anyone who donates $50 or more will be entered into a draw to win a Chromag component kit worth over $450. I am grateful to Chromag for their support.
Ovarian Cancer Canada is the only registered Canadian charity solely dedicated to eradicating ovarian cancer. OCC stands hand-in-hand with the people experiencing, affected by, or at risk and will not rest until women can live their lives freely, fully, and uninhibited by ovarian cancer.
Funds raised will help support vital research that improves outcomes, power advocacy efforts that influence system changes and improve the quality of life for those living with and at high risk, and provide expert information and education to empower individuals with knowledge that can transform lives.
Please consider donating to my fundraising efforts for our moms, sisters, daughters, wives, girlfriends and all women who are fighting ovarian cancer. Your donation will help us fight this disease and make a difference in women’s lives. Thank you for your generous support.
